Creating a colourful understanding of Cumbria's creative industries

We’re big on research in Freerange, and evidence, whether experiential or theoretical. Much of our activity is about demonstrating potential, enabling new, more sustainable, better ways of working and structuring things.

But when it came to articulating the Creative Industries in Cumbria, putting together a colourful picture that showed more fully the activity and flows of ideas and money, we realised we were at the limit of our in-house team and resources.

So we’re pleased to welcome our Unite with Business placement Lindsay McWilliams, Lindsay will be with us over the next few months compiling the data that’s already out there at various organisations, and also sending out and snowballing a new survey compiled by our neighbours DC Research and having conversations with businesses and individuals at all levels of the Creative Industries across the region.

We hope with this data and a clearer picture to be able to both improve our in-house products and services but more importantly (and definitely more of a priority), be able to ensure that the sector as a whole gets the investment, support and recognition it deserves as a growth industry perfectly suited to Cumbria's landscape and assets.
